Stages of reopening are guided by Provincial recommendations and guidelines, but USask may decide to move more conservatively in some areas to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty and staff.

USask is currently in Stage 3 of reopening.

Requests for short-term access are handled differently depending on the type of request:

You can make a request for increased activity on campus or in the field related to specific research, teaching and learning, or critical campus services only. For specific direction regarding field work, please see Field Work Expectations During the Pandemic.

Steps for Making a Request

Requests for missing information delays the review process. Please ensure all of the following steps have been completed before submitting your request.

  1.  Prepare your Increased Activity on Campus Plan excel document
  2. Work with your Leadership
    • In addition to working with your leadership to complete your Increased Activity on Campus Plan (see Step 1 above) please ensure applications are adjusted and align with the requirements provided by the respective Dean/Approver for your unit. 

  3. Complete Safety Requirements for safely increasing your activity on campus
  4. Fill out the request for review form
    1. In the form you will be asked to attach your Increased Activity on Campus Plan which you completed in Step 1.
    2. Fill out the Request Increased Campus/Field Activity form
    3. Make sure you have completed all categories of required information in the Increased Activity forms. For field work, select “Other” for “Primary Building/Work Site”.
    4. Submit the form

Changes to Scope of Work

Research applicants will be provided with a “COVID-19 Safety Permit that confirms they have been approved to resume or commence the research activity.

Safety Permit Amendment

If you need to add an additional worker or update the emergency contact information on your existing approved Safety Permit, please complete the Request a Safety Permit Amendment form. A new Request for Campus/Field Activity submission is required if the scope of work changes significantly or the number of employees participating in the work increases by more than one person.


University approved COVID-19 signage has been supplied to all areas authorized to be open on campus.


Given anticipated (and already encountered) requests to increased activity within stages 2, 3 and 4, we will follow structured criteria and processes for decision making.

The form is used to route the request and manage the approvals required for your Request for Increased Activity on Campus. Key information is collected to help assess the request.

The excel document contains the Exposure Control Plan that describes how to minimize exposure of all workers to infectious SARS-CoV-2 and the resulting COVID-19 disease. This plan is part of compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety regulations, 1996, Section 85.
